Pineapple Spice Popsicles? YES PLEASE!
These popsicles are without a doubt one of the most refreshing treats you can have on a hot summers day (or winter if you live in Australia ). A perfect guilt-free treat for those of us with a pesky sweet tooth, or those who have little mouths to feed and don’t want to resort to lollies and the resulting sugar-high aftermath. In this recipe, the pineapple juice adds a wonderful juicy sweetness and pairs perfectly with the tangy lime. These popsicles resemble those lemonade icy polls we all remember from our childhood.
Pineapple has a digestive enzyme called bromelain, which is a mixture of proteolytic enzymes. These enzymes work together to help your digestive system break down and absorb proteins from the foods you eat. Almost like consuming a cheap form of digestive enzyme, these popsicles are the perfect dessert after a protein-loaded main meal. Despite bursting with a tangy sweetness, this recipe is entirely refined sugar free and contains nothing but all natural, nourishing vegan ingredients. The ginger and mint, two super foods known for their digestion-enhancing properties, give these popsicles a unique spice.
Ginger has been used for centuries in ancient Ayurvedic medicine to treat an upset stomach and nausea. Recent evidence suggests it does in fact aid fat digestion and saliva flow, as well as reduce nausea and vomiting, particularly in expecting mamma bears, those with vertigo, or those undergoing chemotherapy. This miraculous root vegetable is also associated with anti-inflammatory properties, bringing relief from painful period and arthritic symptoms.
Mint is known as a therapeutic herb, thought to increase bile secretion and flow, which helps to speed and ease digestion (and may also support healthy cholesterol levels)! Being a herb, it also has one of the highest antioxidant capacities of any food. Due to its natural rosmarinic acid content, mint has anti-inflammatory properties that are useful in providing relief from allergy symptoms. Mint may also help with the common cold, as it contains menthol, a natural aromatic decongestant that helps to break up phlegm and mucus, making it easier to expel (don’t exactly what you want to be thinking about while eating, but handy nonetheless!) The use of peppermint oil has been found to be a particularly effective and safe treatment for those suffering from abdominal pain or discomfort associated with IBS. Don’t to mention it makes your breath smell minty fresh (no need for sugar-laden mint tablets here!)
These two superfood ingredients were just born to be paired with the summery tastes of Passionfruit and Mango. As if this cooling, healthy treat wasn’t as healthy as is, how about adding over 1 billion live and protected probiotics to the mix?!
PERKii’s Mango and Passionfruit Probiotic drink contains nothing but all natural ingredients, including Lactobacillus caesi Microgel, one of the most well-researched and beneficial probiotic strains for digestive health. The best thing about this drink is that it was developed with the assistance of genius scientists from the University of Queensland and using a revolutionary technology called PROGEL. Not to be confused with a superhero power, PROGEL is an armour-plated like coating that covers the probiotics in the drink and gives them the superpower to survive our stomach acid and reach the gut intact. The gut is where all the healing magic begins, however many of the probiotics we consume in common food products are destroyed during the process of digestion by stomach acid being released, never making it to the gut. This is what makes PERKii’s formula the Mercedes Benz of probiotic delivery.
Woah! That’s a hell of a lot of health benefits for a tasty popsicle. So, do your taste buds (and your health!) a favour and give this super simple recipe a go!
